[Amongst some unhappy news of people being gone, there is Luca. He wanted to make sure that he hadn't actually been dreaming - that he actually had done it - and so, four days after the fact, he's trying not to smile too hard as he shows off his new badge. His first one, actually. ~~And it's happy even though his scales haven't exactly gone away. Huff.~~]

Since it was close by, I challenged the gym in Celadon City and... I won. [Obviously.] I felt kind of helpless just watching my Pokémon battle such strong opponents, even if I was giving them orders, since I'm used to being in the middle of it but, well -- it doesn't matter. I guess it isn't as much my victory as it is theirs...

[He turns the 'Gear to the team that won it - his Audino, his Lopunny, and his Ursaring. His Sentret's there too, hanging around Lopunny's next and chittering at him. Probably nagging.]

Congratulations guys. Doctor, Spada, Ursa. And thank you.

[...Doctor will take all that praise-- Spada's a little more sheepish about it, and Ursa just grins. This is his team!! ~~Mostly.~~ He keeps the video on them though, since he's trying to pin the badge in his jacket like he's seen some other trainers do and-- failing at it, incidentally, while he talks.]

Um-- I'll probably take on Saffron City's next, since it's just a day or two away. Any tips would be really nice.

Congratulations, Luca-san! I'm afraid I can't give any advice for Saffron as I have yet to challenge it myself, but I have to ask...

What made you want to name that one Doctor? *Yes that will bug him if he doesn't know.*

Thank you! And... um... well, according to its Pokédex entry, Audinos have really sensitive ears and they can listen to heartbeats. It just reminded me of a doctor's stethoscope, I guess, so I named him that. They can learn helpful healing moves like Heal Pulse, too.

Hmmm... Do they? I only gave the entry a quick glance after mine hatched, so I didn't give it that much thought... Does yours have a doctor like personality to round it all out?

...Well, maybe if the doctor was cheeky...

... cheeky? I... I don't think that would be an ideal personality trait for a doctor...

Um... Well... Despite that, he's really nice and takes care of us?

Ah... the parental Pokemon of the group, huh?

Him and Scout both, even though Scout's a lot smaller than everyone else. She's the Sentret, by the way. Um... She's named that because Sentrets are supposed to have really good eyesight and really nice hearing, and they kind of keep watch really well.

--ah. You didn't need to explain that one to me! Scout is a reasonable enough name for a pet in any form. Though I do admit it was a nice bit of exposition.

Oh! Um... I've never had a pet, so I don't know what constitutes a good name for one. My father was always pretty strict, and my mother wanted me to go out, not have another excuse to stay inside.

To be fair, I think there's a significant amount of wiggle room when it comes to naming Pokemon compared to just pets... You can go pretty much any route with Pokemon, while naming normal pets certain things would get you some weird looks...

Like what? [Give him some weird examples, Hayate.]

... Sony, Yurei, Steel Strike Rider and Overfiend come to mind.

...Those are some pretty strange names. Are they all yours?

Guilty as charged! It just wouldn't feel right to give examples that someone else uses...

It'd feel kind of like talking behind their back, huh? [Huff, whatever, he'll keep on trying with the badge later. He fixes the feed so it's back to being on him, although his Sentret (at least) joins him not long after.] My names aren't too spectacular either. Ursa's full name is Ursa Major-- it used to be Ursa Minor, both after constellations that I read about here... I have a Hoppip named Puffy, and a Chimecho named Echo... A Togetic named Dozer, and a Charmeleon named Charos...

And Toto, my Arcanine, is a friend's, but she's gone now.

I... I will spare you listing the entirety of mine, Luca-san. It would take a good full two or so minutes to list them all off.

Instead I will just comment on how those are all rather good names! Lately I have trouble picking out names since I've run through so many...

Really? Wow... I can't imagine having so many Pokémon. It's already a hassle just having as many as I do.

Ahaha... What can I say? Two years gives you a lot of time to build up a varied and colorful roster!

Two years!? That's... A really long time... You haven't found a way home yet?

Nope! Not a single sign, indication, or flag raised to point me in the right direction to freedom!

Maybe there really is no way home then.

... I think it's more there's not a "opt in" way home.

Well, why don't you give some tips yourself? For the newer people.

There's not much I can say, especially since Kanto's actually quite far away and I've never faced any of Johto's gym leaders... Oh, but I know Violet City's uses flying types, so it's best to have an electric type. rock type moves tend to miss a lot [or so he's experienced in caves-- thank god too, since they're powerful] and electric types tend to be quicker and less likely to miss... I guess.

[Huff okay, but the one he's actually faced-- He only thought about Violet City's because a friend of his challenged that one for her first badge... before she left.]

Celadon City's gym leader is a young lady named Erika, and she has grass type pokémon, so things like fire, ice, and flying work well against her. If you don't have any of those types, the department store in the city sells TMs with moves like Flamethrower, Ice Beam, and Aerial Ace, so if you don't mind spending some money you could teach pokémon that can learn those moves. That's what I did, since my Charmeleon wasn't a high enough level to last a second, even if he had the type advantage.

Of course, if you have any questions about other types and what works well and what doesn't, then I can probably help. I've done a lot of reading since I've been here [a half a year, roughly??] and I'm happy to talk.

Congratulations! [Beaming a smile with him, though she takes note of the scales still being present.. The group gets a smile, laughing gently at the little shenanigans when they're on the screen.]

Thank you! [Ugh he's jsut going to give up on pinning it. He'll just put it in his bag's special pocket, like he's done with Minnie's gift she made him. The group gets to stay on though, mostly because Doctor recognizes Cheria and decides he is the only one she ever needs to see, thus positioning himself in front of the Gear.] Ah-- Doctor, hey, don't be a camera hog-- Well, you did a lot, so I guess it's fine.

[She'd so help him pin that on if she was there. Laughing a bit sweeter at Doctor taking up the screen, she beams a proud smile at him too.]

You did a lot of the fighting? Great job, Doctor! I wish I could have seen it!

[Luca sighs, but it's a happy one, with a giggle following on the end.]

He did just as much as Ursa and Spada did, don't be fooled. The battle wasn't really a spectacular landslide like I suppose a lot of other people's were, but it was a great experience.

They don't all need to be landslides, that would be too easy, wouldn't it? [But she's still smiling; While Cheria isn't totally fond of the idea of "battling", hearing that it's more like sparring from someone else made her more at ease with it.]

Challenges are definitely good.

Thank you, Takeru. It was a lot harder than I thought it'd be, but that's probably because my team was on pretty equal standing with Erika's, as far as strength goes... I'm glad that normal types don't have many weaknesses, or we'd be in trouble.

Mm, you're right. It's a relief that you guys pulled through. Erika-san's the one who specializes on Grass Pokemon if I'm not mistaken?

She is. The department store sold a lot of useful TMs, so I taught them to my team... That's probably the only reason we won, I guess.

I don't think you should undermine yourself and your team like that, Luca-san.

Oh... Heh, you're right. But I guess I'm, um... appreciating how many moves they can learn. Since normal's a rather unremarkable type, as far as strengths and weaknesses go, they can learn a lot of varied attacks, from a lot of different types.

I guess every type has its advantages and disadvantages. [/sage nod] Normal types are strong in that way. They're quite admirable!

They do give me a new appreciation for an otherwise unremarkable kind of Pokémon. Most of them look like things you'd find back home, like owls or dogs or ferrets, don't they?

Come to think of it, they do. [A pause as he chuckles a bit.] Or little bears.
